FAQ’s

It seems that every time we met new people on our trip they would all ask the same questions. So here are those questions, and the answers – for the people who never got to ask them…😋

  1. What has been your favourite place…? Besides here, of course?
    • That’s an incredibly hard question to answer because when you’ve seen so many different things and met so many incredible people you can’t pick just one, but EVERYONE asks this question! So I usually tell them Death Valley. It was so beautiful, and relaxing, and unlike anything I have ever seen before!!! Plus, going 282 feet below sea level and standing on dry ground is super cool!!!!!
  2. Are you sick of the camper?
    • No, I could easily live in it for another year.
  3. Do you guys get along?
    • We’re a family…😜 But we get along incredibly well for being squished in a camper and having NO private space – or even alone time!
  4. What’s the best part about your trip?
    • I think one of them would have to be seeing such a variety of ecosystems and habitats all in North America – especially in the USA.
  5. Are you guys homeschooled?
    • Well, we road-schooled for this year only – otherwise we go to public school. We only did the math curriculum that our school uses, and then everything else we learned as we explored.
  6. Has anything surprised you?
    • Personally, one thing that surprised me was the fact I could share a room with my sisters. Because at home my room is always neat and theirs… Well, not so much.
  7. How long have you been planning this?
    • We left August 4, 2016, and probably began planning this around January of that year.
  8. What made you do this/ why did you do this?
    • My parents realized we had the camper, and Dad’s job could all be done on a computer, and it has always kind of been something they wanted to do. So they decided to do it this year because it was my last year before Grade 10, where my credits count towards graduation.
  9. Have you heard your dad preach a lot?
    • Yes! He has a PowerPoint message on marriage in both English and Spanish, so if anyone asked him to speak on Marriage he did. I pretty much have that one memorized and I don’t bother taking notes anymore…😁
  10. Have you had any mechanical issues with the truck or camper?
    • We didn’t until two weeks ago, when our check engine light came on and the camper wheel started to smoke.
  11. Are you looking forward to getting home?
    • Definitely!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait!
  12. Where all did you go?
    • If you are new to my blog and don’t know where all we have been I’ve got 50 blog posts for you to read! But we made somewhat of a U shape – staying close to the coasts; down the west coast, across the south, and up the east coast of the USA.
  13. What did you do with your house?
    • We “mothballed” it. No, we didn’t actually use mothballs, but made it as mouse proof as possible,  drained the water lines, antifreezed the sewers, unplugged everything in the house, and turned the heat on really low.
  14. Do you have any pets? What did you do with them?
    • We have one dog, Diesel, and some very kind friends of ours are taking care of him!
  15. Where are you going next?
    • Half the time I don’t know… or “We’ll decide tomorrow…” Sometimes we’ll even be driving from the campsite in the morning before we know where we’re staying that night. Mom and Dad plan the route on the go, and I just look up on google maps where I am once we get there!
  16. What’s the longest you’ve driven in a day?
    • The longest we drove in a day was from Hermosillo, Mexico to Del Rio, Texas. It took us around 17 hours. It was Christmas Eve.
  17. How often do you move?
    • We usually move about twice a week.
  18. Have you guys had any medical issues?
    • We had a couple things we might have gone to the doctor for, just to get checked out, if we had been at home but nothing major.
  19. Where are you from?
    • Me: “Saskatchewan.” Them: “Where’s Saska… Where is that?”
  20. What do you miss the most about home?
    • My friends.
  21. How do you cook?
    • Campchef mainly – and in the camper we have a fridge/freezer, a very, eeny weeny oven that burns everything, and a stove.

Hi Raquenna… Just a quick and very tardy note to express our thanks for all your excellent work on the blog! Its no easy task to document and write, let alone click on that scary “publish” button. Thanks for opening up a little window into your journey. It was great being able to share a few adventures with the SG’s along the way. If you happen to think of any other memorable experiences along the way, we are always ready for a good story! Keep up the good work.

Fabulous! You answered some of my questions, and now we know. Great writing and expressing just how you felt about each situation over the year. You have had one fabulous learning curve thanks to the adventuresome parents you have and your God who kept you safe until you were home. We give thanks to Him. Our love Grampa & Grandma

This was most interesting Raquenna post. I am impressed with your sense of understanding what your audience is wanting and also with the steady improvement of each short story. Looking forward to your visit with us. Lots of love Grandad and Grandma SG
